Island Eye News – Insuring Homes on the Coast
Surprisingly, this hurricane season has remained rather timid despite its ominous onset. If you own a house, boat, car, or anything of value for that matter, odds are you’re going to want to insure these assets, and even if they are insured, you might be looking for a more cost effective plan.
Sullivan’s Island resident and King Street Agency Insurance agent, Patrick Condon, has lived on Sullivan’s Island all of his natural born life. A recent graduate from Clemson University with a BS in Business Management, Patrick utilizes his knowledge of the barrier islands to provide affordable insurance coverage for residents of Sullivan’s Island and the Isle of Palms. He recently attended the Hartford School of Insurance in Los Angeles, and while there, Condon received his Personal Line Coverage Specialist designation. He is now working on getting his Certified Insurance Counselor certification. The company in which he is employed, King St. Agency, is located on upper King St. in Downtown Charleston. Patrick Condon is licensed to write commercial or personal insurance anywhere in the state of South Carolina.
While speaking to Patrick, he informed me of the many ways that their agency can make life a little easier for islanders. One service that King Street Agency Insurance provides is that they give residents all possible credits available, which create large discounts to clients. In regards to homeowners insurance, Condon notes, “We have been able to find discount credits on houses that people knew relatively little about. Many people on the island aren’t taking advantage of the possible wind mitigation credits they could have related to things like roof-type, roof-to-wall connections, and hurricane shutters. I work with a roofing contractor to certify the discounts clients deserve.”
KSA tries to make sure the policies don’t start around hurricane season, and a lot of times they can package home, boat, and cars into one policy. This is a lot simpler, and helps the customer save money. When Patrick insures a new home, he visits the residence to take pictures of the structure and contents, so in the event that something may happen to them the insured knows exactly what is missing or damaged. KSA Marine, which is a subset of King Street Agency, can also provide great rates on anything from a 16’ skiff to a 70’ yacht.
